What Are Heat Pumps?

Heat pumps are a combination of two units, one which would go outside your property, and the other inside. The outside unit will extract warm air from its surroundings and push it into your property. The heat can be distributed inside the building via evaporators, radiators, underfloor heating, or a combination of the three. Normally, heat will flow into colder areas, but with heat pump installation you can reverse this process.

How Do Heat Pumps Work?

A refrigerant within the heat pump is compressed, with outside air then passed over the top in order to warm it. As the warm air is passed inside your property; the refrigerant is cooled, drops and the process is then repeated till you’ve reached your desired inside temperature. Think of a heat pump installation like a reverse refrigerator, pulling warm air from the outside and bringing it indoors.

why you should install heat pumps

Benefits of Heat Pump Installation

Heat pumps are quickly becoming the go-to choice for commercial properties across the UK. The most suitable heating solution will depend on the size, layout, insulation, heat demand and existing heating system of the building. A correctly designed commercial heat pump system should be sized to meet the property’s calculated heating requirements.

Smaller Carbon Footprint

Heat pump installation can help you save energy as almost 90% of their energy is taken from the environment around them. Due to heat pumps being an electric powered method of heating your commercial building – it will help to limit the fossil fuels directly burnt by your business, such as those that would be with a traditional gas boiler. To generate green electricity for your heat pump and property, consider solar panel installation.

Low Energy Cost

Commercial heat pump systems should be designed and sized to meet the building’s calculated heating and cooling demand. In many cases, a single correctly sized unit may be more appropriate than several smaller units, although the final system design will depend on the building, heat demand, layout and operational requirements.

Cooling for Your Property

Not only can a heat pump heat your property, but it can bring the temperature down when you need it! If the temperature you require is a lower temperature than the air being pulled in from the outside unit then the refrigerant can further cool the air before it comes into your property. Heat pump installation allows you to not only heat, but also cool your property.

Build a Happy Working Environment

Regulating the temperature of your property more easily can only help everyone inside. Whether they be customers or employees, everyone will appreciate a constant, comfortable air temperature. Customers and clients will find your premises comfortable and inviting, while employees can increase productivity with a more constant temperature achieved with heat pump installation.

Testimonials

Cavity Wall Insulation

Good work all round, all questions answered promptly and thoroughly, folks knew their stuff and were careful to check the best possible result given existing bits of broken polystyrene in the back wall. Larger than average 3 bed semi done in about 3.5 hours once they were set up. More aesthetic than practical, but I was particularly pleased with how well they matched the morter to the existing one for filling the holes at the end of the job. 25 year warantee was a particularly nice touch. Came sooner than booked due to a cancellation which was a bonus. Really noticing the difference already.

The 2 engineers did an excellent job of keeping the drilling holes to a minimum and cleaned up very well afterwards. In addition to the cavity wall insulation, they also had to fit a new vent due to our wood burner in the living room. They checked with us throughout the project that we were happy with what they were doing and asked for feedback at the end. Very professional and polite guys. We will hopefully learn over the hot summer and cold winter how effective the work has been. Well done team!

Terry Dunford did the surveying for our property he was very knowledgeable and gave very good advice which we check and was correct in everything he said. The men who came do the cavity wall insulation were also very good, they respected us and our home, they explained what they were going to do and warned us about the noise. They cleared up after they had completed the work and asked us to check that we were happy with the way they had left our property which we were. We would highly recommend this company to anyone thinking of having any cavity wall insulation done .

Frequently Asked Questions

A correctly designed commercial heat pump system can reduce heating costs in suitable buildings. The level of saving will depend on the existing heating system, building heat demand, insulation, energy tariffs, system efficiency and operating conditions.

Heat pumps can be utilised in a variety of spaces and the installation time depends on factors such as the number of heat pumps required, your chosen system and whether any internal appliances will need installing or updating. For heat pump installation, we advise around 3 days to fully complete the average commercial building’s needs – but our office and surveying team will be able to better advise you on how long you should allow for your heat pump to be installed.

There’s no debate that heat pumps are more energy-efficient than standard heating systems and can help you save money. If you previously used an electric or oil heating system, then you can see the most benefit from changing your heating system to utilise heat pump technology. A correctly designed commercial heat pump system can reduce heating costs in suitable buildings. The level of saving will depend on the existing heating system, building heat demand, insulation, energy tariffs, system efficiency and operating conditions.

Heat pumps will work at full efficiency all the way down to -10, and continue to work all the way down to -20! For reference, the coldest temperature EVER recorded in London was just under -16 (all the way back in 1962) and your heat pump would still be warming your property at this temperature. Even when there’s snow on the ground, your heat pump will have no difficulty keeping you warm.

Routine servicing and maintenance should be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the requirements of the installed system. Appropriate maintenance can help support reliable and efficient operation over time.

With appropriate installation, servicing and maintenance, a commercial heat pump can provide reliable heating for many years. The service life of any heating system will depend on factors such as system design, usage, maintenance and operating conditions. Any financial savings should be assessed on a project-specific basis.
